Where It All Began
It all begins with an idea.
I’ve always been enamoured by all things food.
When I was really little it meant preferring Barefoot Contessa over Disney Channel (though I definitely watched my fair share of both in the early 2000s).
In middle school it meant forcing my friends to make “Iron Chef America” or “Chopped” inspired cooking shows on the iPad. Or spending hours with my sister creating in-depth restaurant concepts on Keynote complete with menus and logos just for fun (the best was our Twilight-themed cupcakery and we didn’t even like Twilight).

THE TEEN YEARS
When elaborate birthday parties and playdates were no longer the norm, I replaced those things with watching even more cooking shows and diving into the then new world of cooking bloggers. I would try new recipes and eventually follow primarily food accounts on the then new-to-me Instagram.

portland!
It’s no surprise that when I chose a college, I decided to venture to one of the country's best food cities-Portland, OR. While we definitely had our typical college ramen and mac and cheese eating nights, my friends and I got to experience all that the Portland food scene had to offer. From food truck culture to two hour waits for brunch and everything in between. Aside from the food tours that made up my weekends, like most college students I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life (and my comm degree). One thing I never thought could be an option was working in the food world. I didn’t think I wanted to be a chef or open a restaurant and at that point I didn’t know what other options would be.

making food media my place
Until I accepted an internship at a boutique PR firm in Portland. They worked primarily with food brands which meant I worked primarily with food brands. It was the best summer ever. Not only did I learn all about PR, but I got to practice food styling, recipe development and even photography in between reading magazines like Food & Wine and Saveur and calling it “work.” And the rest is history. That internship set me on the path to make the world of food and food media MY place.

dream job, dream life
Now, as a freelance PR strategist and writer I get to talk about food, write about food, think about food and read about food every day and make it my career. I mean unless my job was to taste chocolate all day I think it’s pretty much as close to a dream job as you can get. Thanks for coming along for the ride!
